A KEEN bird watcher and photographer made an unexpected sighting at the weekend.
Ian Ballam, from Poole, captured this rare fog bow while visiting the Sugar Hill in Wareham on Saturday.
It was the first time Ian had seen one.
Ian said: “I’d only heard about them for the first time last year.”
“When I got there it was foggy and I saw it across the field.”
“It lasted for about half-an-hour, then faded a bit and came back again.”
Fog bows, sometimes called a white rainbow, are made of a combination of sunlight and moisture, caused by the small droplets inside a fog rather than the larger raindrops which contribute to rainbows.
