FIVE people have so far appeared before magistrates in Poole charged with drugs offences committed at Bestival.

The festival was held at Lulworth Castle for the first time this year. Louella Fletcher-Michie, who was 25, died after taking what her family say was an "illegal substance" in the early hours of Monday, September 11.

Musician Ceon Broughton, 28, who was known to Miss Fletcher-Michie, was arrested on suspicion of her murder and supplying class A drugs. He has since been released under investigation.

Police arrested 27 people for drug-related offences at the festival. A total of 88 crimes were reported during the course of the event, most of which were connected to drugs.

On September 27, Danny Johns, 25 and of Aspen Road in Charlton Down, Dorchester, admitted possessing 15 wraps of cocaine and five tabs of MDMA at the event. He was fined £70 for each offence and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and costs of £85.

Andrew Setterington, 28 and of Grove Avenue in Muswell Hill, London, appeared before magistrates the following day, September 28. He admitted possessing seven grams of cocaine and was fined £500. He was also ordered to pay a £50 victim surcharge and costs of £85, and the drugs were forfeited and destroyed.

A 41-year-old man from Surrey denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and assaulting a PC at the court on September 29, and will face a trial in January 2018.

Stacy Perkins, 33 and of Foxborough Gardens in south east London, appeared at court on November 20 and admitted possessing cannabis at the festival. He was discharged conditionally for 12 months and ordered to pay a £20 surcharge and costs of £85.

On December 1, Andrew Hargreaves, 21 and of Kidsgrove in Stoke-on-Trent pleaded guilty to possessing 0.54g of cocaine and 1.52g of ketamine.

He was fined £200 in total and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and costs of £85.

Edward Cowan, 22 and of Rockingham Parade in Uxbridge, London appeared before magistrates on December 5, where he admitted possession of 96 tablets of LSD, 113 micrograms of cannabinoid and 37.9g tetrahydrocannabinol.

He received a three-year conditional discharged and was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and costs of £85.

Miss Fletcher-Michie was the daughter of Holby City and Coronation Street actor John Michie.

Her body was found in a wooded area on the edge of the festival site after police were called to reports of a concern for welfare at around 1am.

Next year's Bestival will take place in the same location between August 2 and 5 2018.
