A CLUB in Purbeck that helps support people with dementia and mental health issues is asking the public’s help so it can continue its good work.

The Greenwood Club based at Holton Heath, has entered the Aviva Community Fund competition in the health and wellbeing category in the hope of securing up to £10,000 of funding.

The competition invites community projects all over the country to apply for funding from £1,000 to £25,000.

The club wants to use the money to expand so it can help other members of the community as well as develop a befriending service and peer support scheme.

It uses a woodland environment to support and engage with people living with dementia and their carers as well as people who are socially isolated or living with mental health issues.

The woodland is used as a therapeutic tool to promote self confidence, self awareness and independence.

Spokesperson Jill Hooper said: “Whilst in the woodlands we provide opportunities to make things from renewable resources or recycled materials.

“We have made stools, felt pictures, clocks, picture frames and hedgerow baskets.”

The project needs 1,000 votes before it can receive the funding and members of the public are being urged to vote for the club at https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/vot…/project/view/17-6519

Voting closes on November 21.
