A MAN suffered stab wounds to his legs during an attack in Wareham.

Police were called at 8.23pm on Monday night to reports of a disturbance at an address in Brixey’s Lane.

A 41-year-old local man sustained stab wounds to his legs and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.

An officer on the scene at the time said there was a "large number" of police in the area.

Officers, including armed officers and the dog section, attended and carried out a search of the area.

A 27-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently assisting officers with enquiries.

The injured man and the man arrested are known to each other.

An investigation is underway.

Detective Constable Jo Blackmore, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of Brixey’s Lane last night and saw or heard anything suspicious to please contact Dorset Police.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance and can be approached with any community concerns.”
