A WINDOW cleaner was taken to hospital after falling from a building and landing on a gas pipe.

Ambulance and fire crews rushed to Main Road in West Lulworth following a call yesterday.

The male window cleaner suffered wrist and arm injuries after falling onto the gas pipe, which broke.

While firefighters focussed on isolating the gas supply, paramedics treated the casualty.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle attended the scene after a call came in at 12.21pm.

The man was taken to Dorset County Hospital.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the window cleaner fell from a commercial building.

"We received a call from ambulance at 12.30pm to reports of a window cleaner who fell and landed on a gas pipe.

"One crew from Wareham was sent and was trying to isolate the gas supply just before 1pm. The gas board arrived 20 minutes later."
