1. The Purbeck Valley Folk Festival (August 24-27), is set to be the final flourish of summer. Acts include Badly Drawn Boy, Turin Brakes, Ben Ottewell (from Gomez), Michele Stodart (from The Magic Numbers), Kathryn Williams and Dorset favourites, The Ben Waters Band.

3. If you thought tribute bands were all bad haircuts and cringing cover versions, then you obviously haven’t seen the Illegal Eagles who will perform at the Pavilion on Sunday, August 27.

4. Meet the stars at Film and Comic Con Bournemouth at the BIC this weekend - the region’s biggest movie collectors event with 20 stars from the world of film and TV with talks and traders. Tickets available online or on the door on the day.

5. Live music and fireworks continue every Thursday evening at Poole Quay and every Friday at Bournemouth Pier.

6. Son of Man was initially formed to perform some of Man classics at a series of memorial gigs after the death of Man guitarist, Micky Jones. Now they have released a debut album of their own and will perform at the Barrington in Ferndown on Saturday, August 26.

7. Fundraisers for BBC Children in Need are taking part in the world’s biggest 5k inflatable obstacle course at Upton Country park on Saturday, August 26.

8. A family fun day is taking place on Verwood Recreational Ground in aid of Diabetes UK on Saturday, August 26 from 10am to 4pm.

9. Back for its seventh year, Somerley Beer and Music Festival near Ringwood will bring live music and over 150 different beers and ciders to choose from. Running from the August 25 -26, there is also a variety of local produce to enjoy.

10. The Great Dorset Steam Fair kicks off its 49th year with stunt displays, music, food entertainment and of course , a wide array of steam exhibitions from August 24-28.
