BOTH of Swanage's RNLI lifeboats were tasked to help a yacht this morning, which was dragging its anchor and threatening to beach off Old Harry Rocks.

The skipper of the yacht 'Joie de Vivre' woke to find he'd dragged his anchor overnight and Old Harry was looming fast.

An RNLI spokesman explained: "The skipper put out a Mayday distress call and both Swanage lifeboats were put to sea in response.

"The Dorset Police RIB also responded and were first to the scene.

"They got a line onto the yacht and managed to pull her into slightly deeper water, where the Swanage Inshore lifeboat put crew aboard and set up a tow using the lifeboat's tow line."

Afterwards the yacht skipper checked his engine and steering and found everything to be working correctly.

"So the tow was dropped and he made his way back to better anchoring ground, escorted by the inshore lifeboat," said the spokesman.

The RNLI got the call just after 8.20am this morning.
