A BLUEPRINT setting out future development in Swanage until 2027 will be discussed by district councillor's on Tuesday evening.

Purbeck District Council (PDC) has been working in partnership with Swanage Town Council on the document, which was first submitted to the planning inspectorate in March 2016.

Planning Inspector Sarah Hudson has since examined the plan and - subject to certain modifications - concludes it can be adopted, should district councillors give the final version their backing.

PDC local plan review advisory group chairman Cllr Peter Wharf said: "The plan sets out a vision for Swanage for the period up to 2027 and provides the strategy for the delivery of development and supporting infrastructure within Swanage."

On Tuesday, PDC members will meet to rule on whether or not they should adopt the plan - which will essentially set out the preferred sites for development within Swanage for the next decade.

The Swanage Local Plan identifies specific sites for development, including for around 200 new homes and town centre redevelopment.

Preferred sites earmarked for housing include:

Approximately 90 new homes at Northbrook Road East.

Approximately 90 new homes at Northbrook Road West.

Approximately 20 new homes at Prospect Farm

The plan also identifies land between Kings Road West and the railway station for redevelopment.

Meanwhile, existing sites at Prospect Business Park and Victoria Avenue Industrial Estate should be safeguarded for employment uses.

Writing in the local plan introduction, Cllr Wharf said: "The proposed redevelopment of the land between Swanage Railway Station and Kings Road West provides an opportunity for new and improved retail space to strengthen the economy of the town centre, with potential for a new health centre, an improved transport interchange and public space."

The plan also identifies a number of other projects, which will be considered separately to the local plan process. These include, a new 'multi-function centre', a new museum/heritage centre, additional sea defences and traffic management measures.
