A BOMB disposal unit was called in after a military shell was uncovered in Studland.
The Army Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the beach after some unexploded ordinance was located in the dunes on Wednesday afternoon.
Purbeck Police assisted the unit with disposing of the item which was believed to have been an anti-aircraft round from WW2.
A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “We received a call from a member of the National Trust at 1.06pm this afternoon to report the item near the Knoll Beach visitor centre.
“At 5.40pm the Bomb Disposal Unit attended and detonated the item with no issues.”
