RESIDENTS and businesses have another chance to comment on a document that will shape future development in Swanage until 2027 -with some significant changes to the policy being added.

The Swanage Local Plan, under the umbrella of the Purbeck District Local Plan, will eventually become the formal guide to new development in Swanage. The wider Purbeck plan has been the subject of public consultation already this year.

Now - after examination by an independent inspector - certain aspects of the draft Swanage plan have been modified, sparking another period of public consultation which will last until December 9.

One of the main changes is the removal of the policy relating to the provision of affordable housing on the Prospect Allotments site - adding extra commitment to affordable housing on the site and measure to make sure allotment space is replaced.

Purbeck Local Plan partial review advisory group chairman Cllr Peter Wharf, of Purbeck District Council, explained: “Hundreds of people responded to the previous consultations and we have been able to develop a plan that seeks to address some of the issues facing the town (Swanage).

“This consultation gives people the opportunity to have their say on the proposed changes put forward by the planning inspector.

“We would encourage anyone wishing to comment on the changes to respond in writing. We would like to thank the Swanage community for its support and contribution throughout this process so far.”

The Swanage Local Plan identifies plans for development, including the provision of 200 new homes , of which 52 already have permission, and a town centre redevelopment site to provide new shopping space.
