SWANAGE RNLI launched both lifeboats last night as emergency services worked together in the hunt for a missing person.

At just before 9pm last night the new Shannon class lifeboat was tasked to help search for a 53-year-old local woman in the Studland/Old Harry area.

The Swanage Coastal Rescue Team was also called to search the cliffs between Ballard Point and Red End Point.

A spokesman said: "The lifeboats were asked to carry out a shoreline search from Shep’s Hollow to South Beach, Studland. The boats were quickly on scene and began searching.

"Slow progress was made round to Studland with nothing found. The inshore lifeboat then retraced its tracks back to Swanage and the all weather lifeboat stepped out to sea slightly.

"Once back at Shep’s Hollow, and with nothing found, both lifeboats were released with thanks by Solent Coastguard and returned to station."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police added the woman was found “safe and well” just after midnight.
