POLICE stopped a new driver who made off from officers at speed because she ‘thought she was being chased’.

At around 11pm on Tuesday, March 22, officers in a fully marked car fitted with blue lights and sirens noticed a Citroen on Dorchester Road in Upton travelling “in excess speed”.

They followed the car to Lytchett Minster School, whereupon they attempted to stop the car which continued until near the Bakers Arms Roundabout.

The female driver, who has held a licence for one month, explained to the officers that she had been chased from Upton by a car and was scared.

It was pointed out to her that she was being chased by a police car with lights and sirens and she was speeding.

PC Roan Doyle, of Purbeck Police, said: “If you are required to stop for a police officer in uniform – or a police vehicle – you must stop.

“If the vehicle is unmarked, the occupants aren’t wearing uniform and you’re scared for your safety, call 999 who should be able to confirm the authenticity of that vehicle. But continue driving safely, in the direction of a police station or more public, street-lit place.”
