MAJOR plans to build 112 new homes and relocate the middle school in Corfe Mullen have been met with concerns by residents.

Developer Harry J Palmer has submitted plans to East Dorset District Council for outline planning permission for a phased development of up to 112 homes on land north of Wimborne Road which will include much needed affordable housing.

The plans also include moving allotments (pictured) which are already on the site and relocating Lockyer’s Middle School from the south west to the north east of the development.

The current school site would then be replaced by a local centre which developers hope would service all the community’s needs.

However dozens of residents who live in the adjacent street Violet Farm Close have raised objections to the proposal - in particular to the plans to build three-storey flats on one part of the site.

Helen Church, who has recently moved to Violet Farm Close to start her family, said: “I purchased my property in the rural location of Violet Farm Close to compliment my change of circumstance.

“While I don’t disagree more housing is required, I strongly disagree with elements of this proposal and the number of suggested dwellings.

“The suggested three-storey flats are wholly inconsistent with the current Corfe Mullen community and would result in an unbalanced landscape.”

Residents have also expressed their anger over plans to replace the allotments which currently sit in the site near Violet Farm Close and move them around 300 metres away to Broadmoor Road.

However one resident went even further suggesting this major development will cause unwarranted stress for residents resulting in “significant health consequences” for elderly residents.

A design statement produced by the developers said: “The proposed development will make an important contribution to meeting the housing needs of the area, by providing 112 new homes.

“The detailed mix of homes will be determined at a later stage as part of the reserved matters for the development of the site There is a pressing local need for affordable housing and the proposed development will make an important contribution to helping to meet that need.”
