A YOUNG driver involved in a crash at the weekend continues for fight for his life in hospital.

The 21-year-old from Swanage was seriously injured after a blue Citroen Saxo left the road in Sugar Hill, Lower Woodbury, near Bere Regis, at around 12.30pm on Sunday morning.

He was taken to hospital after receiving on-the-spot treatment by paramedics who attended the scene.

Police have now issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to the collision, which also left three passengers - a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman, both from Swanage, and a 21-year-old Poole man - seriously hurt.

Four ambulances attended to rush two of the casualties to Dorset County Hospital and two to Poole Hospital, where they remain.

The road, which cuts across Wareham Forest and is subject to a 60mph speed limit, was closed for a number of hours while a specially-trained collision investigation team from Dorset Police examined the area and the emergency services carried out their duties.

It is not believed that any other vehicle was involved in the collision.

PC Paul Rogers, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact Dorset Police on 101.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who noticed the manner of driving of the Saxo prior to the incident in the Swanage, Corfe Castle and Bere Regis areas.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience during the road closures.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 25:17. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
