HUNDREDS of thousands of poppies dropped from Second World War planes will rain over Bovington on Remembrance Sunday.

As part of the traditional Remembrance Sunday commemorations, three historic Tiger Moth aeroplanes will fly in formation over the war memorial in Bovington at 11am – dropping more than 200,000 poppies in memory of the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

At 10.30am a remembrance service will take place at The Tank Museum, Bovington, held on behalf of the Bovington Garrison.

Guests and visitors will then be invited to gather outside by the museum’s war memorial for a wreath laying service.

The poppies will be dropped from the Tiger Moth planes by a serving soldier and an army cadet, during a flypast over the memorial as the two minute silence takes place. Piloting the planes will be three members of the Tiger Moth Training company, based at Henstridge Airfield.
