WAREHAM & Purbeck Young Farmers Club and the Vintage Ploughing Committee held it's 40th annual ploughing match on Sunday.

This event, at Bere Regis, was to raise funds for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and the charity Footsteps for Roxy.

There will be around 60 vintage and modern tractors taking part.

Committee secretary Helen Selby said: "This is a special time for us, as we have reached our 40th year.

"With all the rules and regulations it is becoming harder to find ground for us to keep this countryside tradition going.

"Due to the lack of suitable land and the size of the match we are rarely able to hold it within the Isle of Purbeck anymore.

"The first ploughing match was started by Mr & Mrs M Churchill and was held on their farm in Corfe Castle. They will be coming to hand out the prizes this year."

The overall champion of this match becomes eligible to plough at the national finals, with the winner of that contest qualifying for the world championships.

The 40th annual ploughing match, sign-posted from Bere Regis, is set for Sunday, October 4, from 9am.

There will be refreshments and other attractions available on site.
