STAFF and volunteers at Margaret Green Animal Rescue are getting ready for their biggest fundraiser of the year.

The annual Companion Dog Show and Family Fun Day attracts hundreds of people to the charity's Church Knowle rehoming and visitor centre.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Margaret Green Animal Rescue, so the event is set to take on special significance.

Fundraising and marketing manager Lucy Compton said: "Join in with all the fun on the day and enter one of the seventeen dog show classes."From pedigree classes to novelty classes such as 'waggiest tail' and 'best MGAR rescue' there really is something for every dog.

"Dogs that have been rehomed from Margaret Green also have the chance to qualify for Buckham Fair on the day."

There will also be a full programme of stalls and other attractions during the event, including a dog scurry, bouncy castle, dog agility, Pimms tent and kid's zone.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy something from the BBQ and refreshments stand.

Lucy said: "The dog show is the biggest fundraising event in the charity's calendar and we are urging people to come along and support us.

"Every penny raised will go directly back into caring for over 1,200 animals each year who have been rescued from abuse or neglect, have been abandoned or whose owners can no longer look after them."

The winning tickets for the summer grand draw will be announced at the end of the day.

Entry to the event costs £3 for adults and £1 for children.

It takes place on Sunday, August 2, at the charity's Church Knowle centre, near Corfe Castle.
