TWO Swanage organisations are set to receive hundreds of pounds in donations, thanks to competitors who tackled the Purbeck 10k run.

Swanage Disabled Club and the Friends of Swanage Hospital will welcome the boost to their coffers, after race organisers said this year's event had the best atmosphere ever.

Commonwealth Games star Steve Way won the race, with an impressive time of 32.37 - almost a minute clear of second placed Bournemouth AC teammate Peter Thompson.

More than 500 runners entered the event, which was organised for the fourth time by Purbeck Runners.

Purbeck Runners' race organiser Ross Wayne, said: "The atmosphere at this year's event was the best yet and we've had some great feedback from runners."

The event proved so popular this year, it had sold out one month before race day.

An event spokesman said: "Swanage Disabled Club and the Friends of Swanage Hospital will receive all the profits from this year's race."

Swanage Lifeboats benefitted from the 2013 and 2014 Purbeck 10k races, receiving a £1,500 donation in each of the years to wards the new RNLI lifeboat.
