ORGANISERS of the Purbeck Marathon are looking for individuals and organisations who want to get involved with this year's race.

For 2015, in what represents a new development for the marathon, volunteers will even have a direct say on how funds raised by the annual event are distributed to good causes.

Marshals are required and volunteers are needed to help at the race start and finish lines, look after baggage, dispense drinks and hand out goodie bags.

Members of the organising committee are also interested in hearing from any potential business partners that can help - they've recently joined forces with Corfe Castle company Blue Level to help deliver an updated website.

A marathon spokesman said: "The Purbeck Marathon is passionate about presenting Purbeck in its best light to those who have travelled to this stunning part of the country.

"This has been a major factor keeping The Purbeck Marathon rated as one of the best races in the UK.

"This year volunteers will have a direct say on how funds are distributed to charities and good causes after the event."

It is expected that almost 700 runners will be hoping to complete the marathon and the associated Purbeck 16 event, which both take place on September 20.

Entries for this year's main race are already half full.

Last year £6,000 was raised for local charities, so organisers hope to eclipse that amount in 2015.

The spokesman said: "Runners will be testing their strength and endurance running through some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK.

"Finishing either of these events can be a tremendous achievement. However, it is not all about the runners. The events cannot take place without the work of many others who give their time to create something special that Purbeck and Dorset can be proud of."
