A NEW exhibition featuring the work of 17 different artists with the theme 'On the Edge' will be held at Durlston Castle.

This exhibition, running from June 20 until July 12, is comprised of work by the Dorset-based contemporary art group Wecca.

Their new show is inspired by the environment surrounding Durlston Castle, using paints, ceramics, sculpture, photography and more.

Painter and illustrator Elaine Mills, from Wecca, said: "Durlston is a breathtaking place for a gallery, high on the rocks above the sea and rich in wildlife, geography and history.

"It has been a challenge and an inspiration for us all, to produce new work for this venue."

All the work, from cards to framed, limited edition prints, is available to buy.

Throughout the show the artists will be inviting visitors to make their own mark on a giant graffiti board.

Durlston Country Park senior ranger Katie Black said: "We are delighted to be hosting this innovative show, which has made me look at our wonderful coastal landscape in a completely new way."

An exhibition spokesman added: "The show explores the margin where land meets sea to show the shore as an alien universe of flotsam and pollution, a place of reality and fantasy, a dream, the fragility of nature.

"Others are interested in the deep history of this Jurassic Coast manifested in rock formations with their evidence of evolution and the effects of time and erosion.

"One piece derives from the storm wrecking in Swanage Bay of 120 Danish longships."

The Gallery, at Durlston Castle is open daily between 11am-4pm and entry to the Country Park, Castle and exhibition are all free.
