FOUR pedestrians seriously hurt after being knocked down in Swanage are all expected to make full recoveries.

The casualties, aged between 24 and 86, were taken to Poole Hospital suffering with serious injuries following the collision in Institute Road at around 2.30pm on Friday, June 5.

However, a week on from the horrifying incident, police confirmed that no life threatening or life changing injuries were sustained.

Officers were called to the road after receiving reports of a collision, discovering a red Seat Ibiza driven by a 21-year-old man from Wareham had been involved in a crash with four people.

Institute Road and High Street remained closed for more than three hours as collision investigators looked into the circumstances behind the crash.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police on Friday said no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

"All of those involved in the collision are expected to make full recoveries," she said.

One elderly man was flown to Poole Hospital by air ambulance following the crash, while the other casualties - two women and a man - were taken by road.

Traders spoke of their shock at the collision, with one - toy shop owner Nick Waterman, 54 - telling the Daily Echo that the driver had said there was a wasp in the car.

Others spoke of the mayhem in the town centre as ambulances, the coastguard helicopter and police rushed to help casualties.

One of the victims, who does not want to be named, said she is still unclear about what happened.

"I still can't piece it together - I know as much about it as one of [the Echo's] readers," she said.

"I just can't understand it."

Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

Witnesses should call 101 and ask for PC Todd, quoting occurrence number 105225.
