A MAN suffered serious injuries after being pushed from a train station platform into bushes in a disused siding at the weekend.

The 46-year-old victim, who is from Poole, sustained fractured wrists and cuts to his face in the incident, which took place at Wareham's railway station on the evening of Saturday, April 4.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “A 46-year-old man from Bournemouth has been reported for grievous bodily harm, (GBH) without intent, after a man was pushed off the platform and into some bushes in a disused siding at Wareham rail station.

“He voluntarily attended a local police station and is currently helping officers with their enquiries.

“The victim was treated for fractures to his wrists following the incident, which took place at 5.50pm on Saturday, April 4.”

The two men are not known to each other, the spokesperson said.

Dorset Police officers have called for anyone with information about the incident to step forward.

It is believed that the assault may have been witnessed by rail travellers boarding trains at the station.

PC Claire Jephcott of Wareham Town and Wareham West said: "Wareham officers are appealing for witnesses to an incident at Wareham railway station, which occurred at approximately 5.50pm on Saturday, April 4.

"A male received serious injuries as a result of this incident and police believe it may have been witnessed by people boarding the London-bound 5.53pm train.

"If you saw anything or know anything about this incident, please contact PC Cook at Wareham Police Station quoting incident number 04:0368."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said a man was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment following the incident.

"We received a call at 6.09pm to reports that a male aged in his 40s had been pushed from a platform," she said.

"He was complaining of pain in both hands and arms, as well as swelling to his wrists. He had also sustained some minor cuts and bruises to his face. A paramedic in a car and an ambulance attended, and the man was taken to hospital for treatment."

A South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance spokesman said: "The safety of our passengers and staff is always our absolute priority and we are working closely with British Transport Police following this incident."
