THE Jurassic Coast Challenge fundraiser, organised by Purbeck’s My Daddy is a Soldier Adventures charity, will take place this spring.

Charity founder Louise Fetigan, who is based in Bovington, formed the organisation after realising how her daughter was struggling with her dad being posted to Afghanistan.

Louise is asking local people to join her on the Jurassic Coast Challenge, which is scheduled for April along England’s first natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Families can chose from two cross-country 14km routes, the Diplodocus – which ends with a ‘leap of faith’ challenge – and the T-Rex Ultimate Challenge speed trek, which includes a 45ft jump and a tough coasteering route.

Louise said: “This is the third fundraising trek that we have organised and I’m hoping we’ll get lots of support. Our aim as a charity is to open an activity centre.

“The centre will provide a break for families pre and post separation, enabling them to make memories and bond as a family a unit.

“But also, while they have a soldier away and need a distraction, something to tell their soldier parent when they write to them or speak to them next.

“It will also help to reunite soldiers with their families when they come home.”

In December Louise collected the National Military Award for supporting the armed forces, from celebrities Mary Berry and outspoken Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

These awards are organised each year by a national newspaper and supported by the Royal Family and numerous celebrities across sport, acting and music.

My Daddy is a Soldier Adventures works to bring together families to share ideas on how to cope with their loved-ones’ long deployments.
