A WOMAN rambler who died after plunging 50 feet from a Purbeck cliff has been named as Maureen Ann Absalom.

The 68-year-old, from Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, was found by coastguards face-down in the water below the cliffs at Winspit, near Worth Matravers, on Tuesday, October 14.

An inquest into her death was opened at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court yesterday.

Coroner’s officer Nikki Muller commented: “Mrs Absalom was taken to Dorchester County Hospital by the coastguard following a witnessed fall/slip off a 50-foot cliff.”

She said that the pensioner, who had been part of a supervised walking group at the time, had suffered “non-survivable” multiple skull fractures after hitting rocks at the base of the cliff.

Dorset Coroner Sheriff Payne adjourned the inquest for further enquiries to be made.
