THERE is still time to enter this year’s acclaimed Purbeck Marathon, organisers say.

The event, now in its third year, was rated the UK’s number one marathon by the respected Runners World magazine in 2013.

It is already a record year for the marathon in terms of numbers, with the race filling up quickly.

Organisers expect the maximum 400 entrant limit to be reached soon. The marathon’s reputation has spread across the world, with entrants for 2014 coming from as far as New York, Kuala Lumpur, the Philippines and Angola.

Race director Rose Clarke said: “A lot of runners who have taken part in the first two years have been recommending the Purbeck Marathon for its unique course and great organisation.

“Furthermore, being rated the UK’s top marathon by Runner’s World has given us a massive boost and we are grateful to all the previous runners who have taken time to provide feedback about the event.”

The course, through the Purbeck countryside and Jurassic Coastal path, is predominantly off-road and includes climbs totalling nearly 3,000ft.

For 2014 there will be a new finish on Sandpit Field, meaning the final stretch – along Shore Road in Swanage – will be traffic free.

There will also be refreshments available of Sandpit Field, with organisers hoping to include a licensed bar. Organisers also say hot food will be available from early in the morning until late afternoon on race day, September 14. Guaranteed places for 2014 are being offered to charities, which will also be offered a presence on Sandpit Field.

Entry deadline for all runners: August 31.
