MUSIC fans flocked to Purbeck for the 25th Swanage Jazz Festival.

More than 50 bands performed at the event this year, with a mix of styles ranging from the traditional to the more modern.

The event, which began on Friday, came to life on Saturday morning with a brass band parade through the centre of town.

Led by Dave Brennan's Jubilee Jazz band, it started at the tourist information centre on Shore Road at 10.30am before winding its way to Prince Albert Gardens.

Artistic director Fred Lindop said it had been the perfect way to start the day and people lined the streets as the musicians played.

“There has been a fantastic atmosphere,” he added.

“We have had a lot people saying how much they have been enjoying a lot of the bands.

“We have had all types of jazz, including bands containing young people along with more traditional jazz too.

“Arun Ghosh in particular has really struck a chord with the crowds and hundreds watched.

“We have had four venues running performances more or less continuously throughout the day.”

A host of respected and emerging artists such as Amy Roberts, Stephanie Trick and Ben Holder also took to the stage.

Two marquees were located on Sandpit Field, while other venues included the Methodist Church and the Conservative Club.

There were also free performances at the Red Lion, The Crows Nest, The Old Stone Quay, British Legion and on the seafront throughout the weekend.
