A SWASTIKA flag and a chunk of marble from a table in Hitler’s Reich Chancellery fetched more than expected at an auction in Poole.
The massive flag, captured in the final days of the war against Nazi Germany, went to a private collector for £520.
And a dealer bought the red-veined lump of marble on a wooden plinth for £170. In the 1980s, it sold for just £18.
Before Saturday’s sale at Davey and Davey Auctioneers, in St Peter’s Road, the items were expected to fetch between £300-£500 and £50-£100 respectively.
More than 2,000 people went along to viewing days ahead of the auction.
Auction house proprietor Neil Davey said: “This was a huge sale. Out of all of the people who came, no one made a comment about Nazism. I almost expected a bit of a backlash after publicising it, but everything was fine. Historical items like this can attract people who would never normally come down.”
People have brought in a Nazi china plate and a book following Saturday’s sale, he added.
