AN e-fit of the stranger who accosted a terrified schoolgirl in Broadstone has been released by Dorset Police.
Detectives are renewing their appeal for help finding the man who walked quickly towards a 14-year-old girl, reaching out his arms in her direction. He had stepped out of a large black van and watched her before making his approach.
The incident happened as she walked alone in a wooded area between Lytchett Drive, where the black van pulled up, and Broadstone Way, at around 3.30pm on Wednesday, July 21.
The man ran off when a woman and a young boy cycled past. The frightened teenager fled to the safety of a friend’s house, very upset, but uninjured.
The man is white, with olive or tanned skin, around five feet nine inches tall and of a medium build, with a round stomach. His hair is grey or greying at the sides and back, and he was unshaven at the time of the incident.
He was wearing a dark blue T-shirt, with what appeared to be a white net or mesh top over it, brown knee-length shorts, possibly of a camouflage design, white socks and white trainers. The black van is described as large, shiny and new.
Detective Constable Vanessa Moyle, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “It is now understood that the young child who cycled past was wearing a Broadstone First School uniform and I am renewing my appeal for the woman who was cycling with him to contact the police.
“I am concerned as to why this man may have approached the girl and I believe that this cyclist may be able to help me find out exactly what his motives were.
“I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident, and anyone who saw a man running away from this area.”
