"Patti" Jensen dies in Portuguese car collision

POPULAR ex-licensee from Poole, Patricia "Patti" Jensen, has died in a tragic accident in Portugal less than three years after she and her husband retired.

Her death has left former customers and friends at Henry’s in Canford Cliffs and the Westbourne pub stunned.

Mrs Jensen and her husband, Tommy, both 67, sold their Canford Cliffs wine bar and bistro in 2007 and spent a year touring Europe in a camper van before settling in Portugal.

It was in the underground car park of the couple’s marina apartment at Vilamoura on the Algarve that Mrs Jensen was fatally injured in a collision with a car. She died on January 22.

Two people have been questioned by police in relation to the incident.

The couple had been married for 23 years and planned to spend their retirement relaxing and enjoying their mutual love of golf. They ran the Westbourne pub for 12 years before a 10-year stint at Henry’s. Patti leaves three daughters from a previous marriage and five grandchildren and her funeral will be held at St Clement’s church in Poole on Tuesday February 16 at 1pm.

A family friend described Patti as a “larger-than-life character who will be missed by many people” and said her family was too distressed to comment.

“There are no adequate words to describe the pain they are going through,” said the friend. “Tommy and Patti were finally finding the time to enjoy life together, then the last thing that anyone would expect tragically wrecks the happiness they deserved in retirement.”

Patti was a past president of Poole LVA, was an active member of Bournemouth and Meyrick Park Golf Club and also worked as a psychiatric nurse at St Ann’s Hospital in Poole.

An inquest into her death has been opened and adjourned to a date to be fixed in Bournemouth. It heard Mrs Jensen died of chest injuries due to blunt trauma.
