THE YMCA is poised to become the unlikely saviour of ailing Broadstone Leisure Centre. The Christian charity looks set to step in and rescue the centre, which went into administration last month.
Though more famous for providing shelter for the needy, the YMCA is also the largest voluntary sector provider of health and fitness services in England.
Poole council confirmed a deal with the organisation was moving close, though it is believed it may only be a temporary agreement to begin with.
Clive Smith, the council’s head of leisure services, said: “We are pleased the YMCA has shown interest in Broadstone Leisure Centre and we are currently holding positive discussions with them about securing its future.”
There are 135 YMCA branches in England, each run as its own individual charity. Bournemouth YMCA would be the one stepping in to help.
