A MOTORCYCLIST is fighting for his life after being thrown from his bike in a lunchtime collision near Poole on Monday.
The rider was in collision with a white Nissan Micra at the entrance to the Romany Works Business Park at Holton Heath just after 12.20pm.
He was flown to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, by the Dorset and Somerset air ambulance.
He was transferred by helicopter to Southampton General Hospital’s specialist neurological unit later in the afternoon.
The stretch of the A351 between the Bakers Arms and the Holton Heath trading park roundabout remained closed all afternoon while police carried out a full investigation.
An employee from the business park said: “The air ambulance landed in the field next to us and flew off in the direction of Dorchester.”
Traffic came to a standstill for a time before diversions were put in place through Organford and along the A35.
But queues remained slow-moving throughout the afternoon and into the evening rush hour, causing significant congestion.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service was called to clear up a small amount of fuel that had leaked on to the road.
