DETAILS of the development set to replace popular Poole live music venue ‘Mr Kyps’ have been released.

The Ashley Cross nightspot, which has hosted some big names from the UK music scene - including the Buzzcocks, Pete Doherty and Adam Ant - is set to host its last performance on June 9.

Indeed, Ray Dorset, of Mungo Jerry, has already been confirmed as one of the acts booked for the penultimate night at the Parr Street attraction.

Last summer Bayview Developments bought the site - which has become dogged by structural and maintenance problems in recent years - and decided to close it, making way for a new development.

Now, Bayview boss Bill Buckler, who also previously bought into Ashley Cross pub The Bermuda Triangle, has announced his latest plans for the conservation area site.

These include restoration of the buildings and turning them into ‘loft-style’ homes. Mr Buckler also wants to find a suitable tenant of for the old school house.

The existing facades and roofs of the buildings will be retained as far as possible, say developers, and some smaller ancillary cottages with parking will be added.

Mr Buckler also says he intends to keep live music alive in Ashley Cross, by having regular bands at the Bermuda Triangle.

He added: “I am delighted to say that regular live music will continue on stage at the ‘BT’, keeping Kyps’ legacy alive in Parr Street. We wish Kyp all the very best for his next chapter, just as we begin a new chapter with the old school buildings.”

“This is a great opportunity to give Parr Street some much needed TLC and bring the buildings back to their original splendour.

“Our proposals are still at the planning stage, and there is much consultation still to do, but we hope that refurbishment work will start this summer and we are confident that our ideas will enhance this important conservation area around St Peter’s Church.”

Speaking after the closure was first announced, Mark ‘Kyp’ Kyprianou, who established the club 17 years ago, said: “I’d like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has attended and supported us over the years.”
