POOLE'S Twin Sails Bridge will close for up to seven days from Monday, as part of planned maintenance works.

The bridge will close to all road traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians, from 7am.

During the closure Poole Bridge will be operating as normal.

Borough of Poole engineering manager John Rice said: "Our lifting bridges are an important part of our road network so it is essential that we carry out planned maintenance to keep them operating efficiently and reliably in the long term.

"As the Twin Sails Bridge was in operation throughout the refurbishment of Poole Bridge it didn’t get its annual maintenance last year.

"By closing the bridge outside of peak times in the year we will be able to minimise disruption to residents and road users who will always have one bridge available. We are sorry for any inconvenience this work may cause."

Work set to be carried out includes road surfacing, cleaning, replacement of failed lamps and LED road studs, hydraulic systems servicing and control systems checks.
