POOLE is one of the best places in the south to run a small business, according to the Federation of Small Businesses.

Borough of Poole was presented with an award for the Best All Round Small Business Friendly Project in the ninth annual Local Authority Small Business Friendly Awards, by supporting a 'Small Business Saturday' campaign encouraging people to shop locally, among other schemes.

Julian McLaughlin, head of growth and infrastructure at the council, said: "Local micro and small businesses are an important part of our community and play an essential role in our economy.

"This award acknowledges the significant work undertaken by our economic development team to support entrepreneurs and SMEs in not only realising their dream to set-up a business, but to see their business go from strength to strength."

Last year the council was presented with an award for the Most Innovative Small Business Friendly Project for its support in the creation of the Dorset Engineering & Manufacturing Cluster.
