A NEWSAGENTS in Poole has a new visitor in everyone's friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man - and he's keeping up with the news by reading the Daily Echo.

The graphic appeared on the wall above St Mary's News, at St Mary's Road, yesterday morning, but the motive and individuals behind it are unknown.

The Marvel comic book superhero can be seen crouching on the wall above the shop reading a themed edition of the newspaper.

The front page headline reads "Street art increase", with a back page headline of "Cherries vs Marvel FC".

The artwork is not painted directly onto the building.

Instead it has been produced on a section of boarding, before being attached to the wall with pins.

Jacquelyn Riley, who has been the owner of St Mary's News for more than 20 years, said the source of Peter Parker's alter ego was a mystery to her.

"I thought the Echo had done it as a sort of advertisement in several places, but you had never said anything about it," Jacquelyn said.

"When I come into the store in the morning it's pitch black.

"On Saturday, I could see there was something on the wall so I saw it then but I forgot all about it.

"It wasn't until I came back to the shop later in the morning that I saw Spider-Man clearly.

"I really like it to be honest and my little grandson thinks it is brilliant.

"People keep coming into the shop asking if we know anything about where Spider-Man

"Whoever has done it has put some work into producing it."

The residents of the flat above the newsagents also do not know where the artwork came from or who did it.

Tom Carpenter, one of the flat's residents, said it took him by surprise when he first saw it.

"I think it is a really cool image," Tom said.

"We woke up one morning and boom it was there, but I think it is a really nice thing to have there."

It's unknown whether the Spider-Man follows the latest news on the World Wide Web, but if you know any details about his backstory contact us at the Daily Echo.
