COUNCILLORS have backed plans for major improvements to Poole Park in support of a bid for nearly £3 million of Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) cash.

Borough of Poole (BOP) planning committee members voted unanimously in favour of the proposals last week. Since then, BOP cabinet member of the environment, Cllr John Rampton, said: “Poole Park is a real gem in the heart of Poole.

“It is treasured by so many people so it is important that we seek to improve and protect the park for everyone to enjoy now and in the future.”

Meanwhile, planning board chairman Andy Garner-Watts said: “This project is great news and will refresh the park for many years to come.

“Poole Park is much loved and enjoyed by everyone in the borough and is something we can all be proud of.

“Thanks must go to the council’s team for their work on this and of course to the Friends of Poole Park for the work they do to maintain and preserve the park.”
