TRAVELLERS have set up camp in Poole Park - for the third time in less than nine months.

Around seven caravans were seen entering the site via Copse Close on Saturday afternoon.

A confrontation took place between a number of residents and travellers, upon their arrival.

Resident Graham Hill left his property at Twemlow Avenue and filmed the travellers entering Copse Close.

A confrontation broke out after a caravan-towing van drove towards him and stopped abruptly.

Mr Hill, a 48-year-old father-of-two, said it is the third time travellers have broken onto the land in nine months.

He said he feels let down by the police and the council for failing to stop travellers accessing public land.

The Daily Echo did attempt to speak to the Dorset Race Equality Council at the time of going to press.

Ward councillor Ann Stribley said that Borough of Poole are currently assessing ways of preventing unauthorised vehicles entering the site.

A spokesman for Dorset Police confirmed they were aware of the situation and would be monitoring it over the next few days with council officers.
