PLANS to build three blocks of flats with a car lift for underground parking in Poole have been given the green light.

Poole planners discussed the scheme for the Lilliput area of the town at a meeting on Thursday.

The scheme covers numbers 34 to 40 in Dorset Lake Avenue and will see the two existing houses on the site demolished in order to make way for 23 flats over three blocks.

There are also plans to build three additional houses on the site and car lifts would be used to provide access to underground parking at the site from Dorset Lake Avenue.

At Thursday's meeting the planning committee approved the plans despite objections from Dorset Police regarding the risk for “potential arguments whilst vehicles wait to use car lifts”.

There were also objections from residents regarding “overdevelopment of the site”, the flats being “out of character” for the area and “loss of privacy” for neighbours.
