A CRUCIAL meeting on the future of Poole Carnival is to be held tomorrow (Tues January 31).

Organisers have warned that the popular event “hangs in the balance” unless more volunteers come forward.

The event has become a fixture on the first Sunday of August in recent years, with a parade heading from Sea View down Ashley Road and on to Branksome Recreation Ground. A day of fun activities then takes place at the rec.

The traditional event was revived in 2004 thanks to the efforts of Ashley Road traders and last year’s carnival was declared the best since it re-started.

But with under 10 volunteers and some needing to drop out, carnival secretary Marion Le Poidevin is urging more helpers to come forward.

She said: “The carnival is very popular and it’s great to see so many people enjoying all that’s on offer during the day. But its future hangs in the balance unless more volunteers join the team to share in the work.”

Sponsors are also needed to ensure the future of the carnival.
