BOROUGH of Poole (BOP) wants Upton Country Park to be financially self-sustaining by 2022, it has emerged.

The council's cabinet is set to discuss the new Upton Country Park Forward Plan on February 7.

This document, which focuses on the park's development and management over the next three years, states increasing income and reducing costs "with the aim of delivering a self-sustainable country park" as a main objective.

Poole council will subsidise the country park to the tune of £200,000 during the 2017/18 financial year.

Members of BOP's overview and scrutiny committee have already recommended the new forward plan for cabinet approval.

Cabinet members will be asked to approve the document, which also includes details on further enlarging the park; developing a welcome centre and a wetland centre; extending and improving car parking facilities and increasing private bookings.

The plan also highlights an intention to build new children's play facilities, develop more historic and cultural activities on site, and reduce carbon emissions.

Poole's cabinet is scheduled to convene at the Civic Centre, Poole, on February 7.
