A PENSIONER organised a protest against the views of Donald Trump on his inauguration day but did not get a single response from the public.

Pat Brandwood, 83, from Broadstone, was aiming to support the Bridges Not Walls campaign, which saw over 200 banner drops planned around the world, including in the US and on Tower Bridge in London, to coincide with the introduction of the new US President.

Pat was due to hang a banner on the Twin Sails Bridge in Poole at 12pm, but after registering her details online she did not received any calls of support, and so she cancelled the idea.

She said: “I looked online about Bridges Not Walls and it’s something that I feel strongly about.

"I feel that Trump is not representing us. These people are going out into the world and representing us, but they do not share the same views.

“This is all triggered by him saying that he wants to build a wall between America and Mexico. I think it’s much better to work with people rather than against them.”

She added that she grew up during the Second World War and does not want her grandchildren to have to go through the same experience.

Nona Hurkmans, a spokesperson for Bridges not Walls, said: "On Trump’s inauguration day we were taking action to show our support for groups under attack – here in the UK, across Europe and in the USA – and to reject the rise of a dangerous and divisive far right politics.

"We won’t let the politics of hate peddled by the likes of Donald Trump take hold. What happens next is up to us and by standing together we can show that the rhetoric of fear and hate have no place in our society."
