A DORSET disability charity has come up with a bright idea for a new fundraising event.

This year will see the first night time Dorset Neon Runs come to the county to raise funds for local charity Diverse Abilities, which supports children and adults with disabilities in Dorset.

The first event of its kind is being held at Poole Park on Saturday, April 8 with a second Dorset Neon Run taking place at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth on September 23.

Those that sign up can run, dance or walk around the 5km route and will be provided with glow sticks, bracelets and neon paint to help light up the night and glow as they go.

The Dorset Neon Run is open to anyone over the age of 12 and participants will also receive a branded event t-shirt with their neon bling.

At the Poole event in April, runners will warm up with local 'clubbercise' instructor, Olivia Storey, just before they set off to light up the night along the 5km route.

Those attending the Dorset Neon Run will also be able to enjoy on-the-water activities with Rockley Watersports, which will be lighting up the lake for the evening.

Ashley Weedon, events manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “We are extremely excited for our first ever Dorset Neon Run taking place in Poole Park.

"It will be a really fun event with plenty of food stands and refreshments for runners and supporters alike.

"We hope many local people take part in our neon run which will help us light up the lives of children and adults living with disabilities in Dorset.”
