RESIDENTS in Poole have the opportunity to get involved in shaping community activities through a new project in Turlin Moor.

Poole Communities Trust has received funding of £13,294 from People’s Health Trust, which will be used to support residents in Turlin Moor to determine what community activities and facilities they would like to see in their local area.

Volunteers are now being encouraged to get involved with the project, called Let’s Talk Moor.

They will meet weekly and will be given training and support to manage a range of consultation activities.

This is also an opportunity for volunteers to learn new skills, make new friends, and make a positive difference to the Turlin Moor community.

Chris Mills, development officer at Poole Communities Trust, said: “The grant from People’s Health Trust will help us support residents in Turlin Moor to determine what community activities and facilities they would like to see in their area.

“The project will be genuinely community led, with local people setting the scope of the consultation and how it is delivered.

"The role of Poole Communities Trust will be to support them.”

Lou Knight, who is chairing the project steering group, said: “Turlin Moor is a great place to live, but we are missing some of the community facilities that exist elsewhere in Poole. For example, the site of the former Turlin Moor Community Centre site has been left derelict for over 10 years.

“This project will give local people the opportunity to say what we want and whether there is scope to develop new community facilities.”

The first volunteer session takes place between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday, October 20 at The Kaf, 193 Turlin Road, and will be held weekly at the same time and place thereafter.

There’s no need to book a place and all local residents are welcome.
