THIS unique Flying Millyard motorcycle won Bike of the Year at Poole's Dream Machines' season finale.

Owner Allen Millyard built most of the bike himself, based it on a 5,000cc board track racer and used cylinders from a 1940's Pratt and Whitney aircraft engine.

Allen, from Berkshire, said: "Poole Dream Machines is a great event and I've been coming for years.

"This year I couldn't believe the crowd around my bike. I think people really liked the homemade Chitty Chitty Bang Bang look of it.

"Everyone was lovely and it is amazing talking to people about it, especially those who don't ride as they really got into the event and voted."

During last Tuesday's final meeting of the season, at Poole Quay, all the winners of the individual Bike of the Year titles went head-to-head.

Voting cards were handed out throughout the evening, to fellow bikers and spectators, who then cast their votes on the favourite.

Allen won £300, courtesy of A Plan Insurance, and the Midge Holloway Trophy. He also won a free MOT from All2whellers.

Meanwhile, second place and £200 went to Tony Philogene, from Verwood, for his custom built trike. Ken Allen, from Southampton, won third - and picked up £100 - with his 1962 Norton.

Poole Tourism manager Graham Richardson said: "Bike of the Year is always a brilliant way to end the Dream Machines season.

"The competition was fierce and it was great to see so many families, enthusiasts and riders joining in to chose the winner.

"It has been a fantastic year and a credit to everyone involved, and our thanks go especially to the volunteer marshals who give up their time week-after-week to help support the event."

Organised by Poole Tourism, Dream Machines is part of the Wave 105 Summertime in the South programme. Hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts meet at Poole Quay every Tuesday night during the season.
