MARTIN Glenn – one of the key men behind the sacking of England boss Sam Allardyce – is due to appear at the County Ground in Hamworthy.

The Football Association chief executive is set to attend when the Dorset County Football Association opens its state-of-the-art 3G artificial grass pitch tomorrow.

Allardyce, who had taken charge of just one England game, was axed after he was filmed by The Telegraph allegedly offering advice on how to bypass FA regulations on player transfers.

It is also alleged Allardyce used his role to negotiate a £400,000 deal.

Despite the dramatic events, a spokesperson for the DCFA yesterday told the Daily Echo the association had not been informed Glenn would not appear at the Blandford Close ground, which is home to Dorset’s representative teams and Sydenhams Wessex League side Hamworthy United.

The £640,000 project was funded with the help of a grant of £467,000 from the Premier League and the Football Association Facilities Fund.

DCFA chief executive Sue Hough said: “Over the past three years we have worked hard to secure funding for the new pitch and now it is completed. It will be available to benefit the wider community.

“There was a strategic need for the pitch to be built here at the County Ground and as provisional bookings have shown, it really is popular with clubs and a broad range of groups from the county.

“It is a much-needed asset and a fantastic facility.

“Our thanks must go to the Premier League and the FA Facilities Fund for working together to make this happen.

“More accessible facilities for grassroots football to be played is precisely what we are striving for in Dorset.

“We are all very much looking forward to the official opening.”

Glenn and the Mayor of Poole, Xena Dion, are among a string of VIPs due to attend the opening, which is set to take place at 6pm.

On the Allardyce situation, Glenn said: “Sam is absolutely distraught. He recognises he made a terrible error of judgement.

“Once again, I have to say how disappointed I am... but we have to stand up for the right behaviours across the whole game. We are the guardians of the game.”
