AROUND 6,000 people have attended an event on Poole Quay featuring Lindy Hop dancing and classic cars.

The second annual Poole Goes Vintage has seen thousands of people descend into the businesses and stalls by Poole Harbour, as well as enjoying live music and face painting.

Graham Richardson, manager of Poole Tourism, said: "Over 6,000 people are really enjoying the day with great music, great dancing and lots of people have taken up the opportunity to embrace the theme and dress up for it."

Asked what he thinks the appeal of the event is, Graham said: "It's just a theme that attracts all sorts of people.

"It's good to see that the Poole Quay businesses are busy.

"It has been a great day and the theme has worked really well."

Live entertainment today has been provided by Real Vintage, Memphis Belle, The Aphrodites and The Ace Trio, while dancing demonstrations and have-a-go sessions have been provided by Jitterbug Jive.

Louise Jones, community fundraiser from Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: "We are at the event because are the chosen charity this year and we have stock from our shops for people to buy and two fashion shows featuring our volunteers as models."

Hugh Lyons from Kinson was showcasing his hand-built Teardrop caravan at the event, which drew huge numbers of people eager to have a look inside.

He said: "It is lovely to see it bring a smile to people's faces when they see it.

"I bought a Triumph TR4 and thought it would be nice to build a caravan to go behind it. It has a sink, a cooker and storage cupboards and fits two people.

"I built it about six years ago, costing about £550 and it took about three months to make. Since the first time I took it out and about, it has got a lot of interest."

Speaking about Poole Goes Vintage, he said: "I like this event because it's a nice location and popular throughout the day."
