A CAR was spotted travelling over 100mph on the Dorset Way, police say.

Officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team attempted to pull over the vehicle last week after it was spotted speeding.

But a police chase ensued when the driver of the red Ford Focus allegedly failed to stop.

Following a short pursuit around Canford Heath the driver decamped from the vehicle.

A male was detained shortly after and arrested for careless driving, failure to stop for police and driving without due care and attention. The vehicle was also seized.

According to police the driver was one of the No Excuse team's "high risk targets".

According to the team the vehicle had allegedly set off several speed cameras in Dorset recently and had false number plates.

A police spokesman said: "“At present Dorset Police’s No Excuse team operates a process whereby they are deployed in areas where there are collisions or casualties, or in response to public reports of dangerous driver behaviour.

"In this case the team were deployed in response to a public report of a specific individual who posed a threat to road safety.

"In response, the vehicle was logged as a risk and further intelligence was gathered to enable the team to target the alleged offender."
