FINAL preparations for the Poole Town & Country Show are well underway, organisers say.

Upton Country Park is hosting the Daily Echo-backed event, which is in its eighth year and is set to attract thousands of visitors over the first weekend in August.

Emma Owen, director of Oakleigh Fairs - the company promoting the show - told the Daily Echo: "I am very much looking forward to coming down to Dorset again this year.

"The terrier racing always goes down well with the crowds at the Poole show. The children get really, really involved and we have many of the same people attend. There is a lovely spirit at the show.

"The terriers are looking forward to coming down and they're going to go super fast because the children in Dorset give them a run for their money."

Aside from the popular terrier racing, this year's show will include birds of prey, working dogs and Purbeck ferrets.

There will also be a goat show, arts and crafts stalls, gift and food marquees, trade stands and rural demonstrations.

An event spokesman said: "A blend of traditional and folk music will be performed by Celtic Confusion throughout the weekend.

"Children can also enjoy inflatables and a children's fairground.

"Then, why not sample, browse and buy products in our arts, crafts and gifts marquees, as well as the lifestyle and food stands. The event is fully catered and there is a licensed bar featuring real ales and cider."

The Poole Town & Country Show, opening 10am-5pm, takes place over the weekend of August 6 & 7.
