A WOMAN has suffered possible head injuries after becoming trapped under a car.

The crash between a car and a pedestrian occurred in Poole Road, Westbourne, at just before 8.50am.

Crews from Westbourne and Springbourne fire stations attended the scene, close to St Michael’s Roundabout, which links to the Wessex Way via the B3066.

The female pedestrian, who was in her 20s, was trapped under the vehicle, leading the fire service to use a jack to raise the car and rescue her.

It involved a blue Renault Clio registered to a woman from Bournemouth.

South Western Ambulance Service said staff from a nearby medical centre went to help the woman until an ambulance crew arrived.

The woman has been taken to Southampton General Hospital with possible head injuries, a spokesman said.

A police spokesperson said that the woman's injuries serious but are not thought to be life-threatening.

Officers from Dorset Police have closed Poole Road from St Michael's Roundabout to the traffic lights at the junction with Queen's Road and Clarendon Road while they investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Gareth Gosling said: "On arrival a female was discovered at the side of the car, held by the vehicle. Her injuries are unknown at this time.

"We thank people for their patience. The road won't be closed for very long."

Morebus have tweeted to say that a diversion is in place from St Michael's Roundabout, Durley Chine Road, West Cliff Road and Grosvenor Road in both directions.
