ALMOST two months after Poole nightspot On The Roxx Bar & Kitchen lost its licence a new bar has opened in its place.

On The Roxx - which was located at 89 High Street - was forced to close its doors in February after police applied to the Borough of Poole (BOP) Licensing Authority for a review of its licence.

In March the sub-licensing committee revoked the licence completely after it emerged that 54 incidents of ‘serious crime and disorder’ took place at the premises within an eight month period.

At the licensing hearing sole trader Steven Hellyn, who had the licence transferred to him on the day of the meeting from the previous owners Brothers Leisure Ltd, made a last ditch attempt to save the premises.

He told the committee he wanted to see the bar remain open but for the focus to shift from weekend nightlife to good food.

Despite this the the committee still decided to revoke the licence.

However since then a new licence application has been submitted to the council by Mr Hellyn for the premises which has been rebranded as Barque.

Following a consultation the licence was granted on Thursday, April 28.

The licence allows live music on Friday and Saturday nights between 9pm and12am and recorded music between 9pm and 1am.

And alcohol will be served Monday to Thursday from 9am to 11.30pm and from 9am to 1am on Friday and Saturdays. On Sunday alcohol will be served to 11pm.

On The Roxx used to be open until 3am on Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays.

During the licensing hearing in March Mr Hellyn said it was never his intention to be the "last bar open".

"That's when you get trouble because all those people who have already had too much to drink come to your establishment because they want to keep the party going," he added.
